US targets oil in Africa
US Occidental Petroleum Corporation announced on July 30 that Libya had approved the company to resume operation in the country.
Africa has huge oil reserves, next to only the Middle East and South America, thus is called "the second Gulf region". Its rich oil resources have become an indispensable chip of the United States in its global energy strategy.

Obviously, since the U.S. have realised that they will no longer get any cheap oil from Chavez, and things are turning around in the Mid-East (are being evicted from Uzbekistan, with Russia and China having interest in that region), the U.S. is now showing interest in Europe's traditional backyard=Africa.
It's all about oil.
