U.S. Ports Begin New Catastrophic Terrorist Attack Drills

U.S. ports are preparing for catastrophic terrorism in a major new program of security drills that began last week in the San Francisco Bay area and continues next week in Baltimore (see GSN, Aug. 11).

The federal Port Security Training Exercises Program (PortSTEP) is to bring together government and private-sector officials responsible for maritime transportation and commerce, emergency response and land transit in 40 port districts around the United States. Officials participate in fictitious incident scenarios intended to reflect the terrorist threat environment.

Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Paraguay still have more or less U.S. friendly relations. Toledo is losing groung in Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia are currently in political turmoil (due to U.S. intervention and business interests.)

When the U.S. built the Manta airbase in Ecuador, the official statements were more or less describing the airfield as a small dirt strip not worth mentioning. This "dirt strip" became the biggest U.S. airbase inSouth America. Now they are playing with the same cards in Paraguay, saying that their troops will only be there temporarily and for "humanitarian" reasons. However, the real resons are purely geopolitical. Bolivia is due to have a presidential election very shortly, and the U.S. is clearly afraid that Evo Morales will win the race. Now the U.S. is bringing troops into the region to possibly intervene in Bolivia in the case that Morales would win...

This U.S. hypocrisy is just insane. They still live in the past with their Manifest Destiny doctrines...however, a new wind of change is blowing in South America, and it is not favorable to the U.S.! :-)

Reverend Pat Robertson Says US Should Kill Venezuelan President

On Monday's broadcast of "The 700 Club" Robertson said the United States should assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Virginia Beach, VA -- The founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network says the United States should assassinate Venezuela's leftist President Hugo Chavez.
On Monday's broadcast of "The 700 Club," the Reverend Pat Robertson said, "We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability."
Chavez, who often expresses strident opposition to US policies and influence, has spent the last several days in Cuba meeting with the island's communist leader Fidel Castro.
Calling the president of oil-rich Venezuela a threat to US security, the Reverend Robertson said assassinating Chavez would be "a whole lot cheaper than starting a war."
He added, "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and get it over with."

London bombings: the truth emerges

The suicide cell that killed 52 people on 7 July is not linked to those alleged to be behind the second London attacks on 21 July, according to the initial findings of the biggest anti-terrorist investigation held in Britain.

An investigation into the four suicide bombers from the first attacks and the people alleged to be behind the July 21 plot has found no evidence of any al-Qa'ida "mastermind" or senior organiser. The inquiry involved MI5, MI6, the listening centre at GCHQ, and the police.

US targets oil in Africa

US Occidental Petroleum Corporation announced on July 30 that Libya had approved the company to resume operation in the country.

Africa has huge oil reserves, next to only the Middle East and South America, thus is called "the second Gulf region". Its rich oil resources have become an indispensable chip of the United States in its global energy strategy.

Israeli Businessman Sentenced in Plot to Ship Nuclear Detonation Devices

WASHINGTON (AP) - An Israeli businessman who conspired to ship controlled nuclear technology to Pakistan was sentenced to three years in federal prison.

U.S. District Judge Ricardo Urbina on Thursday imposed the sentence on Asher Karni, who pleaded guilty last year to helping ship devices that could be used to test, develop and detonate nuclear weapons.
